I tried watching cartoons on TV, screening movies on my laptop, and writing chapters on Wattpad. But I still ended up being bored that I consider going back to the hospital for my internship (which trust me, is the last thing I want to do).
Good thing I wanted to brush up on my reading, especially since it's been ages since I've last read a good book. And also because I have a stack of new books I've bought recently waiting to be opened and read. But I also felt that I was going to be bored. I know right! This is an ultimate low point for me, when have I ever been bored reading books?!
Anyhoo, I ended up opening Gayle Forman's book If I Stay (started reading it on 26th October). I know that you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but how can you not love this?
I heard a lot of great things about the book, and after a few chapters I found that I loved Gayle Forman's writing and storytelling. I loved how she described how the accident happened without being really specific. It was pretty dramatic. She is freaking awesome. I'm ranting now. Stop ranting. Stop. Oookay.
The book has a really interesting plot. Although I kind of expected more from it ... I guess I was hoping it would be something like Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (the book didn't make me cry so much ... but it did teach me a lot about how to treat other people). But I still haven't finished reading the book (still on page 182), so it may be too early for me to conclude anything about the book.
UPDATE! October 28, 2013
Finished the book!
After finishing it, I found that I really loved the book. It focuses so much on family, love and friendship. The book also made me cry a couple of times, unlike in Before I Fall.
Both If I Stay and Before I Fall may have similar themes about dying, but they approach them differently. In If I Stay, I think that it focused more on Mia's relationships with her family, friends and love while in Before I Fall, Samantha focused more on her school relationships. Both books say that the heroines had everything, but in If I Stay, Mia lost her family and Samantha lost everything (don't want to spoil it ... *wink wink*).
The heroines of each book are also very different. Mia is quiet but also head strong and talented musically. Samantha on the other hand is popular, and kind of mean when she wants to be. Their love stories are also different, but both very sweet. I love how Mia is with Adam, and how their relationship is very realistic (with the not realizing that they were falling for one another, the awkward first week ...) but I also love how Samantha managed to find the right guy in the end (not gonna spoil it!)
Also, the stories were told in different approaches, flashbacks for If I Stay and a time-loop warp thing (not sure what you call it) for Before I Fall.
Meh, I don't know how this ended up being a comparison of the two books ... I love both books! Both writers wrote very beautiful stories. Though I kind of favor Before I Fall more, because Samantha was ... complicated (maybe that's why I like Mimi Force from Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz better than the main heroine Schuyler). She was mean, and she had her reasons (though sometimes I wanted to smack her in the head to knock some sense into her) but she managed to grow, and let go. Aaah! Okay, I'm just ranting right now ...
Can't wait to read Where She Went, especially after that sneak peek in the end of the book. Can't believe it was in Adam's POV :))
